![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
How Does the Mazda Brand Compare to Audi?
The market of luxury cars is competitive, with a variety of brands working year after year to outdo themselves when it comes to performance and technology. The Mazda brand is one that sticks out among luxury automakers for having more practical choices over other brands. Mazda models tend to be more affordable, often have higher-rated safety features, and better fuel economy than many competitors. Let us see how this brand compares to a worthy challenger: Audi.

Performance & Efficiency
Engineers and designers at both Mazda and Audi put a lot of thought and effort into their respective performances. Every Mazda runs on a SKYACTIV® powertrain that is exclusive to this brand only. Each SKYACTIV® propulsion system is designed for maximum performance, while conserving energy and saving fuel in the long-run. As a result, Mazda engines tend to offer better fuel economy over their counterparts from Audi.
As an example, the Mazda CX-5's standard SKYACTIV® performance enables this crossover tor travel up to 24 mpg in the city of Washington DC and 30 mpg on the highway. The comparable Audi Q4 runs on an engine that, while turbocharged, falls short in terms of efficiency, traveling an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Audi engines also generally only accept premium unleaded fuel, which is more expensive in the short-term and the long-run. Many turbocharged SKYACTIV engines can run on premium fuel, but this is optional, rather than the default fuel type.
Interior
While Audi models earn a lot of popularity for their opulently-designed interiors, their vehicles are often lacking in available space and comfort for passengers to enjoy as they cruise through Laurel, MD. The Audi A4 is a great example of this, with an unlisted passenger volume and a trunk capacity of 12 cubic feet. The comparable Mazda3 sedan provides up to 13.2 cubic feet of trunks space with almost 93 cubic feet of passenger volume.Â
The Audi Q7 fall similarly short when it comes to comfort, despite it being one of the roomiest SUVs from this brand. Against the similarly-sized Mazda CX-9, the Audi Q7 offers less legroom for the second and third rows, with a lower passenger volume overall and up to 69.6 cubic feet of maximum cargo volume. The CX-9 features a spacious volume of 135.1 cubic feet, with lots of leg and headroom for all seven passengers and up to 71.2 cubic feet of cargo volume in total.

Features
As a luxury brand, Audi offers a generous selection of standard feature on all of its cars, no matter which trim you choose. However, many Mazda models offer similar features for a much lower starting price. Some Mazda models even have a few extra conveniences to offer, even on entry-level trims, including remote engine start through Mazda Connected Services and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go. Mazda models like the CX-9 and Mazda3 also feature 60/40 split-folding rear seats, which are much easier to fold in, versus the standard 40-20-40 split-folding configuration of Audi back seats.
