Winter-Ready Features
The CX-5 comes in several trims, all of which can be equipped with all-wheel drive. Mazda uses a system called i-ACTIV AWD. This system is continually monitoring how the wheels are doing. If the road is clear, you won't have any problem with power being sent to your front wheels only. In fact, this can make driving more efficient. However, there are certain situations in which you may not have great traction. In this case, power would be redistributed. The exact way in which power is divided between your front and rear wheels will depend on the type of information the CX-5 can gather from its various sensors. i-ACTIV AWD takes into account so many things, such as the external temperature, the slope and speed at which you're driving, and how strongly you have to turn the wheel to take turns.
Further, all-wheel-drive vehicles come with Off-Road Traction Assist. This can significantly optimize performance for when you have to drive on more rugged terrain, and it will keep you moving in the right direction.
All-Season Power
There are few different engine choices with the CX-5. The standard engine is a 2.5-liter model that can generate 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. The other option is a turbo model. It also has a displacement of 2.5 liters, but because it has the turbocharger, it can churn out up to 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque.
